Southwest Bible Church is an Elder led church. Elders are men called by God to shepherd the church and are qualified to be Elders based on the characteristics described in 1 Tim. 3 and Titus 1. The church staff enjoys the privilege of serving the church body and our community as we all seek to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ among all peoples.

Phil Christensen

As a husband, father, teacher and pastor, Phil loves being caught up in the great adventure of following Jesus.  With a love for Jesus, the church and our city, Phil has a passion for helping people encounter the life changing grace, truth and love of Jesus.  Being a part of the Southwest family since 2005 has been an amazing blessing that keeps getting better.  Phil and his wife, Cynthia, have three adult children: Taylor, Meghan and Wesley.

Kevin Terrazas

Kevin Terrazas and his family have been with Southwest Bible Church since 2008.  Kevin received Christ into his life when he was in college when a friend on the same sports team introduced him to the Gospel.  Since trusting in Jesus, he has experienced tremendous change and a new understanding about how life is about God and not about self.  As he may tell you, God’s work is hardly finished in Kevin’s life and he looks forward to the trials and tribulations God has in store as he attempts to serve God with this congregation.

Kevin is passionate about God and reaching out to others.  He has faithfully served for several years in the children’s ministry for multiple ages (Monkeys and 1st-3rd Grade), has served as a deacon for two years, and has served as an usher and on the logistics team. Kevin is currently serving on the Global Outreach and Benevolence teams, which fits his desire to see the Great Commission in action.

God has blessed Kevin with his loving wife Patricia and his God-fearing children Sienna, and Alex.

Paul DeRouen

Paul DeRouen and his wife, Tracy, have been members of SWBC since 2009. After nearly 30 years of ignoring God and living life for himself, Paul came to life-changing faith in Christ Jesus in February 2007. Through a series of providential circumstances and painful losses Paul came to recognize a deep need for and desire to follow God. It is Paul’s desire to follow Jesus wherever He leads, to help fellow believers do the same, and to share the fantastic news about Jesus along the way with anybody who will listen.  Paul is currently serving as a teacher in the Children’s Ministry, as a Small Group Shepherd and as an Usher.

Toby Parker

Toby along with his wife Amy and children Jack and Grace have been at SWBC since 2013.  Toby and Amy both grew up in the church, and have been blessed with a faith that is grounded in the need for Jesus day after day.  Toby has previously served as a Deacon at SWBC and along with Amy now serves as Small Group Shepherds.  He graduated with a Masters of Art in Global Studies from Liberty University in 2015 because of the burning God had placed in his heart for His creation.

Chris Nelson

Chris Nelson and his wife, Lisa, have been members of Southwest Bible Church since 2009 and have seen Jesus' unfailing generosity and faithfulness to them and others through the work of the Holy Spirit in this church again and again.  By God's grace, both Chris and Lisa have been following Jesus from a young age and are humbled by the opportunity to raise three children (Brayden - 9, Blake - 7, Bailey - 6) who were also created to love and serve Him.  Chris served as an elder from 2013-2017 and currently serves on the teaching team for adult services; he and Lisa also teach together in the 1st-3rd grade class on Sundays and host and shepherd a small group.  It is their shared passion that people of every age and background meet Jesus, understand His impossibly high standard and His infinite mercy and grace, trust Him with their lives, and experience the joy of continually and increasingly giving their hearts to Him.

Favorite Scripture: Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord." Jeremiah 9:23-24

Paul Emerson

"My desire is to live in this world serving God by serving others, seeking to be obedient to His call and to help awaken the hearts of this generation to worship Him."

About Paul: He considers himself a very blessed man. He married his beautiful wife, Charis, in February of 2003. Since then they have had two amazing children, a son, Britain, born March of 2007 and a daughter, Bella, born Dec of 2010. He grew up in Austin, Texas and has always had a great love for this city. He has had the occasion to visit other places around the world, but has always been happy to return home to Austin. Music is another love of his and he has had the privilege of playing around the world and in some of the coolest venues Austin has to offer. However, his favorite place to play is with his church family at Southwest Bible Church. He also loves football, as it’s always been something that has brought him close to the people he loves. As a result, he loves to play, watch or just talk about football…Dallas Cowboy’s football being the best kind. Some of his other favorite things are fishing, hunting, snowboarding, drinking coffee, singing with his wife, playing with his kids, and spending time with friends.

Favorite Scripture: For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:36

Scott Rhodes

“My desire is to live for God rather than myself, love others as myself, and lead others to do the same.”

Scott enjoys playing golf, water-skiing, watching sports,

reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Favorite Scripture: Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!  "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?" For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36
